Nakshatra Compatibility Chart: All 27 x 27 Pairings
Every nakshatra pairing scored on classical kuta principles, in one table. Rows and columns list the 27 birth stars in zodiacal order; each cell shows the match score out of 7 and links to the full written analysis for that pair.
The Full Compatibility Table
Read the first person’s nakshatra down the left column and the second person’s across the top row. The intersection shows their compatibility score out of 7, combining ruler friendship, gana, and yoni kutas. Colors group the scores: green for excellent (6 to 7), gold for good (4 to 5), amber for moderate (2 to 3), red for challenging (0 to 1). Click any cell for the detailed analysis of that pairing.
Prefer picking two stars from a list? The nakshatra matching calculator shows the same scores interactively, with the ruler and gana details for each selection.
How the Scores Are Computed
Each cell combines three classical kuta dimensions. Graha Maitri (0 to 3 points) scores the friendship between the planets ruling the two nakshatras according to the standard Vedic friendship table. Gana (0 to 2 points) compares the temperament classes Deva, Manushya, and Rakshasa; identical ganas score highest and the Deva-Rakshasa combination lowest. Yoni (0 to 2 points) compares the instinctive animal natures; identical yonis score highest and classically hostile animal pairs lowest. The same data generates the 378 full pair analyses, so the chart and the detail pages always agree.
This is a deliberate simplification of the Ashtakoot (36-point) system: it keeps the three kutas that depend only on the nakshatra pairing and omits those that need the Moon signs and directional bride-to-groom counting (Varna, Vashya, Tara, Bhakoot, Nadi). For a full 36-point guna milan on two specific charts, including Mangal dosha and navamsa analysis, see the Marriage Compatibility report.
Frequently Asked Questions
Common questions about the nakshatra compatibility chart: how to read it, what the scores mean, whether order matters, and which pairings score highest.
How do I read the nakshatra compatibility chart?
Find the first person's nakshatra in the left column and the second person's nakshatra in the top row. The cell where they meet shows the compatibility score out of 7. Green cells (6 to 7) are excellent matches, gold cells (4 to 5) are good, amber cells (2 to 3) are moderate, and red cells (0 to 1) are challenging in the scored dimensions. Every cell links to the full written analysis for that pairing.
What does the score in each cell mean?
The score combines three classical kuta tests: the planetary friendship between the two nakshatra rulers (up to 3 points), the gana or temperament class match (up to 2 points), and the yoni or instinctive nature match (up to 2 points). It is a simplified version of the Ashtakoot system, which scores 36 points across 8 kutas. The linked pair pages set each score in its fuller classical context.
Is the chart symmetric? Does row versus column order matter?
Yes, the chart is symmetric: the three kutas scored here give the same result regardless of which partner is the row and which is the column. In extended traditional matching, a few kutas (such as Tara and Vashya) are directional and are counted from the bride's star to the groom's, which is why full 36-point totals can differ slightly by order.
Which nakshatra pairs score highest?
The strongest cells cluster where both nakshatras share a gana, have ruling planets that are mutual friends, and carry the same or friendly yoni animals. Same-nakshatra pairings often score well on these tests too. Because high cells are scattered across the chart rather than concentrated in one region, most nakshatras have several excellent potential matches.
