What is Choghadiya?

Choghadiya (from Sanskrit chatur-ghadiya, “four ghadi”) is a muhurta system that divides the daytime and nighttime each into 8 equal parts. Every segment is ruled by a planet and carries a named quality:

  • Amrit (Moon) and Shubh (Jupiter), most auspicious
  • Labh (Mercury), good for profit and business
  • Char (Venus), good for travel and movement
  • Udveg (Sun), neutral, government work
  • Rog (Mars), avoid for new starts, health matters
  • Kaal (Saturn), most inauspicious, avoid all new ventures

Choghadiya is a fast, practical muhurta for everyday decisions when a full panchang analysis is not needed.
